How To Find Someone's Date Of Birth

Isn't it strange how so many people are reluctant to give you their date of birth? It gives away their age. Everyone likes to look younger than they really are and they like to keep their age a secret. So how do you find someone's date of birth without them knowing so that you can send them a birthday gift or if you need to know their age for some other reason?

You must be discrete when finding out someone's date of birth

Religion

Many people don't want you to know their age because they pride themselves on their youthful looks and might even lie about their age to add to the illusion. Lying about your age must be one of the most common 'white lies' there is. If this is the case then you can't just go up to them and ask, "When is your date of birth" because you may well cause embarrassment and you can't rely on getting a truthful answer anyway.

How To Find Someone's Date Of Birth

Ask close friends and relatives

If you can rely on close friends or relatives of the person to be discrete then you could ask them but they might not know the answer. Or worse they might only think they know their date of birth but again you can't rely on it.

How to find someone's date of birth quickly and discretely

There is a large amount of information including your date of birth stored, as public records on each and every one of us and public records are accessible to anyone who knows where and how to look for them. The problem is knowing where to look and having the time to go and look for it.

There is now a quick, convenient and very discrete way of finding just about any publicly available information about practically anyone. Thousands of public records databases are being combined into one and all this information is being placed at your fingertips through the power of the Internet. This is power that a few short years ago was reserved only for the law enforcement agencies. Now you have the power, you can use the same databases that they do.

Mary Magdalene-A Faithful Disciple of Jesus Christ

Primary Witness of the Resurrection

Mary Magdalene as one of the leading women who followed Jesus Christ. She witnessed some of the most important events in all of recorded history--the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. She was such an important witness of these historical events that each of the four gospels mentions her. She was a wealthy woman who had served Jesus Christ during his ministry and given him financial support.

Religion

The four gospels were written from four different perspectives over a period of 30 to 40 years. The fact that each gospel names her shows that she was well known as the primary witness to the resurrection.

Mary Magdalene-A Faithful Disciple of Jesus Christ

The other disciples, except John, had forsaken Jesus Christ and fled from his crucifixion and burial. However, Mary Magdalene remained close to him, and she was the first person to see Jesus Christ freed from the chains of death.

Seven Demons

Why was Mary Magdalene such a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ? Well one reason is that she was very thankful because Jesus Christ had cast seven demons out of her as recorded in Luke 8:1-2.

"1And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, 2And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils," (KJV)

Mary was not the only woman who followed Jesus Christ or whom he had healed of diseases of mind and body. Yet, Luke specifically mentions her because Christ had cast seven demons out of her. Jesus Christ had set her free from the bondage of the demonic world.

Prostitute Allegation

Mary Magdalene has often been misunderstood and has been accused of being a prostitute. However, the Bible nowhere identifies her as a prostitute. Why then do many people think that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute? Luke records an incident in which a woman who was a public sinner washed the feet of Jesus Christ with her tears. Some people think that Mary Magdalene was this woman. This incident is recorded in Luke 7:36-39:

"36And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. 37And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. 39Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner." (KJV)

However, scholars think Mary Magdalene is likely not the same woman called a sinner in Like 7:39 because Luke does not provide the name of the woman in Luke 7, but he specifically names Mary Magdalene in Luke 8:1-3.

Allegation that She Was Married to Jesus Christ

Some books such as Holy Blood, Holy Grail and the The Da Vinci Code allege that Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalene. One of the arguments for Mary Magdalene being married to Jesus Christ is that one of the Gnostic texts states that Jesus Christ kissed Mary. However, greeting one another with a holy kiss was common in that time even as the apostle Paul commanded in Romans 16:16 and in three other places in his epistles.

Gnostic writings were never accepted as a part of the canon of scripture. Even the Gnostic texts nowhere state that Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalene or any other woman.

Some people argue that Jesus Christ had to have been married because the disciples sometimes called him "rabbi" (Mark 11:21), and a rabbi was usually married. They called him rabbi or master as a title of respect. The word for rabbi or master in Mark 11:21 can mean "my great one or my honorable sir." However, Jesus Christ was technically not a Jewish rabbi and he nowhere stated that he was a rabbi. The disciples sometimes called him a rabbi because he was their teacher, but Jesus Christ did not hold the official Jewish title of rabbi.

According to Smith's Bible Dictionary, there were various forms of the title rabbi with different levels of honor. The lowest level was rab, which meant master. The next level was rabbi, which meant my master; next came rabban, which meant our master; and the highest level was Rabboni, which meant my great master.

In Mark 11:28, the Jews asked him by what authority he did certain things because they knew that he did not hold any kind of formal Jewish position of authority.

There is simply no hard evidence that Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalene or any other woman. The vast majority of scholars, whether they are liberal or conservative, agree that Jesus Christ was not married.

At the Crucifixion and Burial

Mary Magdalene was present at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew 27:55-56.

"55And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: 56Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children." (KJV)

While other disciples had forsaken Jesus Christ at his crucifixion, Mary Magdalene and many women showed great courage in being at the crucifixion. Women value relationships very highly. Mary Magdalene valued her relationship as a disciple of Jesus Christ. She was determined to stand by him until the very end. She remembered the healing that he had given her when he cast the seven demons out of her. He had given her a new life, and she would stand by him even in his death.

Mary Magdalene was also present at the burial of Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew 27:59-61.

"59And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. 61And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre." (KJV)

Yes, Mary Magdalene was also present at the burial of Christ. As the First Day of Unleavened Bread drew near, Mary Magdalene was there to witness the burial of her master and lord. She would later return to the tomb to anoint his body with spices, but she would not find Jesus Christ there.

Witness to the Resurrection

The Apostle John records how Mary Magdalene was a witness to the resurrection of Jesus Christ in John 20:1-2.

"1The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him." (KJV)

Mary was disturbed. If Jesus Christ were not alive, she wanted to still touch his body and anoint it with spices. She did not want to let go of her master to whom she was so devoted.

She persuaded Peter and John to go to the tomb. They ran to it and looked inside. Then the disciples went home, but Mary Magdalene did not go home. Just as she had remained close to Jesus Christ at his crucifixion and burial, she would remain close to his empty tomb until she saw two angels inside it.

The Apostle John goes on to describe the conversation that Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ had after his resurrection in John 20:13-17:

"13And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him. 14And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 15Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. 16Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. 17Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." (KJV)

The Greek work for touch in verse 17 is Haptomai. It means "to cling to." Jesus Christ told Mary Magdalene not to cling to him because his mission was not over until he had ascended to the Father. Jesus Christ gave Mary Magdalene the mission of informing the disciples that he had risen from the dead and would ascend to his Father.

An apostle is one who is sent (Acts 1:21-22). Jesus Christ sent Mary Magdalene to tell his disciples, who would become apostles, that he was alive. For this reason, some early writings refer to Mary Magdalene as the apostle to the apostles. However, she had no authority as an apostle in any official capacity. She was not one of the 12. However, she was honored for her example and devotion.

The fact that Jesus Christ first appeared to a woman and made her a witness of his resurrection is one of the strongest proofs of the truth or historicity of the resurrection account. Jewish law did not recognize a woman's testimony. According to Mark 16:10-11, when Mary Magdalene told the disciples that she had seen Jesus Christ alive, they did not believe her.

However, women were important to Jesus Christ. He appreciated their devotion, especially the devotion of Mary Magdalene. He valued the opinions and the testimony of a woman. If the account of Jesus Christ's resurrection were a mere fable, Mary Magdalene would never have been listed as its first witness.

Conclusion

Mary Magdalene was a wealthy woman; she was a financial success. However, she did not achieve spiritual success until later. Seven demons had possessed her, but Jesus Christ cast them out and healed her. She made changes in her life and became a success story. She sought Jesus Christ with persistence; she sought him with courage; and she sought him with humility. As a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene serves as an inspiring role model for each of us.

How to Earn Big Time From Paid Membership Forums

A forum is defined as a means of voicing thoughts or openly discussing ideas such as in TV or radio programs, newspapers, magazines, or websites. A web forum is an application for staging discussions or dialogues and also for posting contents that are user-generated. The messages could be in chronological order or in the form of a threaded forum. The most common terms for web forums are: message boards, electronic discussion groups, bulletin boards, discussion boards, or simply, forums.

The most popular spots for themes of discussions include computer games, video games, religion, fashion, technology, and yes, even politics. To be able to earn money on web forums, it is important that you know the rules of the game. First, there has to be a moderator for the entire forum. Next, the registration fee should be clearly stated for all members to review. And the third rule, the moderator and the members, alike, should follow netiquette (or etiquette on the net).

Religion

Registrations are not the only means of earning bucks through paid membership forums. There are instances (especially when the forum becomes very popular) where companies will ask to advertise their services or products on the site. This is where a moderator can start earning big time.

How to Earn Big Time From Paid Membership Forums

Advertisements can be posted on conspicuous areas of the message board. In there, the members can clearly see products or services that are being offered (most of these are often related to the theme of the forum). A forum on video games could have advertisements that focus on gadgetries and magazines that feature cheat codes. These are useful items to a gamer and it is most probable that he will buy what he sees on the discussion board.

Networking can also be a means of earning more money for paid membership forums. For example, players of a certain video game who are members of a forum could recruit more members (where they could get commissions by adding more people to the group). The more new members they recruit, the better it is for the group.

It is also the moderators role to continuously encourage the interest of its members and also their participation so that the group will keep on thriving. As the facilitator, he should be able to market the forum not only to potential advertisers but to the members as well.

If you're one who flourishes in providing information and keeping people pepped up to certain issues, then this could be a good and steady source of income. You get to be the middle man on a discussion which matters to you while tucking some bucks in your pocket. Not bad for someone who sits in the comfort of his home, right?

Discover the Symbolism and Secrets of Freemasonry

For those that are not familiar with the Freemasons they are a society of men that class themselves as a fraternity. There are many branches or Lodges that exist all with their own leader and followers. They purport there is no one leader that oversees all of the Lodges. Their concept is to keep the craft of Masonry alive by paying homage to it throughout the years. The Freemasons are said to be the most secretive society in existence.

Being as this Society is so shrouded in mystery it often raises the interest of others. It raises controversy over whether it is a good society for the betterment of humanity, which is what the Freemasons claim, or is it simply a cult?

Religion

The Freemasons rely heavily on symbolism. Meaning that the tools of the trade of Masonry are the symbols that portray them and apparently, this symbolism is carried out in various aspects of their meetings. One such symbol that is highly regarded is the Mason's apron.

Discover the Symbolism and Secrets of Freemasonry

Naturally if there is a controversy over an established group or Society people want to know where the leaders of the Country stand regarding it. This is why there has been so much controversy as to whether George Washington was a Freemason. As we mentioned the Mason's apron is a symbol for the Freemasons and one of these was recorded in the possessions of George Washington after his death.

It would seem that there are variations in these aprons according to status. They have embroidered symbols on them. The apron reported as belonging to George Washington can be viewed in the Philadelphia hall.

Those individuals that do not believe that the Freemasons are the brotherly love society that they portray do not believe that George Washington would have been part of the Freemason society. On the other hand, the Freemasons go to great lengths to prove that he was. Perhaps this is important for them in order to promote their good standing in society.

Some of said that, yes Washington was originally a Freemason but renounced his membership. Yet Martha Washington had the Freemason hold and conduct her husband's funeral. The Governor of Pennsylvania wanted to ensure that Washington's name was not linked to the Freemasons and went to the point of having a publication tract relating that Washington had not had any part in any Mason event.

Naturally, the more stature one holds in Society makes their beliefs and actions consequential. It comes down to if George Washington was in fact a true Freemason then he must have endorsed the Society as being a good and proper entity. This would give the Freemasons substantial grounds to stand upon in support of their organization. On the other hand those skeptics that believe Washington was not part of the society go to great lengths in their arguments to document that Washington was not part of this Society.

In summary after all is said and done, it raises this question. If George Washington were in fact a Freemason, does that give them the credibility of their place in society that they promote? George Washington was human, and humans make mistakes. Just because he was such a prominent figure, could it not be that even if he were a Freemason that he misconstrued what they were according to the anti Freemasons?

The Meaning of This Too Shall Pass

One of my favorite proverbs is "This Too Shall Pass." With origins in Persian poetry and Jewish folklore, the proverb has also been seen in Edward Fitzgerald's poetry and was used in a speech by United States President Abraham Lincoln. Existing for hundreds of years, the proverb is now etched into many peoples minds.

The origins of the proverb come from fables of a king who seeks to be humbled. In the Hebrew version, King Solomon seeks a ring that will make happy people sad, and sad people happy. In both cases, the king is presented with a ring etched with the phrase "This too shall pass."

Religion

The phrase is beautiful for its simplicity and yet incredible complexity. Only four words long, the proverb is short, and yet it carries so much weight. No matter what your situation in life, eventually things will change and it will be over.

The Meaning of This Too Shall Pass

Looking at the proverb from the context of every point in a person's life, it's easy to see the full effect. No matter what situation you are in, eventually, you will die and everything will be no more. At the same time, every emotion you currently feel is only temporary, and new events in your life will eventually come on and change those feelings.

Overall, it's a tremendous proverb and it's no wonder that it has continued on for so many years. Even looking at our economic downfall today, it should warm peoples hearts some to know that this too shall pass.

What, Who is A Mother?

Is she the one who brings us into this world? Or is she the one who cares for us, feeds us, looks after us and loves us like no other? Many would get baffled at the perplexity and the apparent simplicity of this question.

To me, a mother is not just the one who brings us into this world. A mother who gives birth, and then leaves the child on the road to die; will you call her a mother? In contrast, a woman who has not given birth to that child (on the road) but takes her home and treats the child as if he were her own, is she not a mother? And, in fact, a better mother than the mother who originally gave birth to that child?

Religion

We celebrate Mothers' Day. Why? For we rejoice and acknowledge their contribution to the society and mankind as a whole. I bow to all mothers in this world. I celebrate the spirit of motherhood. The power God has placed in the hands of a woman is incredible; the power to reproduce, the power to give birth to life. Without which, mankind would cease to exist. Admit it, men. You are because of women. It is only a woman who can give birth, you only 'help'. So respect women.

What, Who is A Mother?

The first teacher of a child is his mother alone. She is the one who inculcates the values the child lives with for his life. She is the one who takes the finger and teaches us to walk. She is the impersonation of God on this earth. Let us salute the mother in every woman.

Mother, we love you. For whoever you are, whatever you are.

From The I-Ching to 2012 - Terrance Mckenna's Astonishing Theory And The Singular Event For Mankind

Recently passed philosopher, scientist (and some may say, eccentric) Terrance McKenna was a complex man with a complex theory that ended in a simple statement: December of 2012 will be a time that we will never forget.

After intensely studying the I-Ching, the Ancient Chinese Oracle known as the "book of changes," (some say with the assistance of psychoactive plants in the Amazon) he began to see patterns. The I-Ching is composed of 64 hexagrams, which are made up of six levels each of alternating horizontal bars and dots. If you line them up and stack them so that they are within a perfect square, you start to see a movement within the shapes.

Religion

He decided to create a linear model beginning in time with the era that the I-Ching was created in China and continuing to the present to see what patterns develop. When he input this information into a computer program, it formulated a graph with a rising and falling line, like a stock market forecast. He then noticed something astonishing. The parts of the line that were highest or lowest corresponded with times in history when new forms were developing.

From The I-Ching to 2012 - Terrance Mckenna's Astonishing Theory And The Singular Event For Mankind

When the line reached a peak, a new form would trigger the psyche of people. When the line fell into a crevasse, it aligned with a time when reality seemed to be falling apart, or there was a great event, or group of events all at once, that galvanized people. (The graph tells when, not where or what happens.)

You can see by the graph that important things happen in peaks and in troughs, both. My personal theory is that the peaks are when the lights go on and someone embodies this by creating some new form (which may not be able to be assimilated, and therefore is feared or shunned). The low points are when the lights go out and everyone is scrambling to find the switch because nothing is recognizable. Each requires a new form to come in to existence, but for a different reason.

Following the line on the graph, we see it take its last rise around the time of Classical Greece (around 700 B.C.) and then take a steady plunge until it simply dives off the graph into infinity, ending the module. And when was this event that had not occurred ever in the history of mankind you may ask? It was 2012. December 21st of 2012 to be exact; the final moments of the Mayan Calendar, as well, a calendar which had begun 5000 years ago, ending with the same date that Terrance's module ended with.

Terrance saw this time period ending with time being compressed, over and over, from 1945 to 2012. What may we expect from this based on his calculations and the discoveries of correlations of the cycles of past events?

McKenna said in an interview with Sightings TV show that his best guess is that it is as if someone is likely to invent a time traveling machine of sorts, because it is as if it is the end of linear time. In other words, all time merges into one time. Everything becomes connected to everything else. Past, present and future become one. We could in effect be experiencing an infinite amount of evolution in a finite time.

Around 1968 there was the last peak. This coincided with a very tumultuous point in our cultural history in the USA. While the hippies frolicked and tried to create Nirvana on earth, the Vietnam War was escalated into its final death throws, and Martin Luther King's message came across amidst riots and violence until his voice was silenced. We can see that this peak provided great events that touched the psyche of a group of people and still resonates today.

As we progress in time, we experience more rapid evolutionary growth in shorter time periods. The last one we had was between that time of 1967-68 until the 1990s, which corresponded to The Dark Ages of the past. Then it cycles again from 2010 until 2012, only 64 times faster, then in 2012, 64 times faster still. In other words, we must adapt and evolve 64 times faster each cycle. (Remember what I said earlier about 64 being the number of hexagrams in the I-Ching.)

No one really knows what will happen. As the different views on this time period converge, this date of 2012 is beginning to be known in the mainstream culture. Whether taking it seriously or not, people are starting to notice. And when that happens, just like the compressed and sped up time, the attention draws energy to the date and speeds that energy toward us, creating a fait accompli.

As we are propelled closer and closer to 2012, I believe that it will be important to be able to be incredibly agile, releasing the old willingly and adapting to each quickly shifting circumstance with lightening fast decisions in the moment, decisions that come from the heart. This will ensure that we are where we need to be for our soul's best interest and that we will be there in peace.

We won't have to look at a graph, know how fast things are speeding up, or ask someone what we should be doing. We will just know. If what Terrance McKenna is saying is true, this will be a day out of time while we are still on earth, and could provide an opportunity for this life and all lifetimes for each soul on earth.

Why We Avoid Talking About Religion and Politics

As far back children we are taught to avoid two subjects in polite conversation - politics and religion.

The topics are considered taboo by some because people hold such strong opinions about them. So, in order to keep the peace, we are told to avoid talking about them in public. It is considered the polite thing to do.

Religion

People hold their feelings about politics and religion very dear. Wars are continuing to be fought over them because many people feel their view is the correct one and feel threatened by opposing views.

Why We Avoid Talking About Religion and Politics

Those who feel that strongly are usually unwilling to open their minds to see others viewpoints. They are more comfortable with the familiar and don't like change. They may be unable to go beyond their comfort zone.

In politics, discussions about controversial subjects are often troublesome. Debates get heated and often little is accomplished. Sometimes insults are thrown. Many times the subjects get tabled for lack of a consensus on how to solve the issue.

When hot button issues are discussed in political forums, they can attract zealots. These extremists are so blinded by their own views they will rarely find common ground with their opponents in a political discussion.

You may wonder how politicians ever get anything done in this type of environment. What ends up happening, is that politicians on both sides of the argument stack the sides with their supporters. In American politics the process allows citizens to vote for people who they believe best represent their views. They can also contribute money to their campaigns and volunteer their time stumping for them.

By aligning themselves with like-minded people, politicians can collect enough votes to pass legislation that supports their views. That satisfies their supporters and keeps them in office at least until the next election.

10 Interesting Topics of Conversation for Every Occasion

Don't panic! You can be interesting. Interesting topics of conversation needn't be difficult to come think of. Think about this - what makes a topic interesting? Isn't it that people like to talk about it and that they have opinions on it?

Once you realize that, you'll see that for interesting topics of conversation come from everyday life and things that we all have in common. Then you'll realize it's not so difficult to think of them.

Religion

Don't think you have to be controversial and go for risky topics like politics and religion; you don't. In fact, to do so would be a mistake.

10 Interesting Topics of Conversation for Every Occasion

Whatever topic you choose should make people relaxed and happy to talk; controversial subjects don't do that. Think instead about what all people share: families, hopes, dreams, experiences etc.

Here are a few interesting topics of conversation to get you started:

1. Who is the most interesting person you ever met? You can see how this would easily lead people to voice opinions and ask 'why?'.

2. Where in the world would you most like to visit? This dream location may be shared by others and so it makes people feel solidarity, but also, people will be itching to ask 'why?' and keep the conversation flowing.

3. What has been the most life-changing experience you've ever had? Here, people can share funny and touching stories if they want to, which will help you get a deeper understanding of them. Likewise, if people don't feel relaxed enough to give a heart-felt reply they can answer in a funny way and it all adds to the conversation.

4. What is the most spontaneous thing you've you ever done? That opens the door to all sorts of funny and romantic stories.

5. Who's had the biggest influence on your life? Because this person has influenced the person you're asking, they must view them positively and have strong ideas about them. That means they're likely to enjoy talking about them.

6. What thing that you haven't yet done would you most like to do? This kind of inspirational question always gets people talking and everyone's usually happy to chip in with comments about people's hopes and wishes. Just be careful when commenting that you don't rain on their parade. It's their right to have whatever hopes they want.

7. What is the best quality you've inherited from either of your parents? This is particularly interesting at a family gathering when people know the parents you're talking about. It's also a bit of a bonding experience, speaking favorably about your parents.

8. From which person have you learned most in your life? This is another uplifting, positive topic of conversation that usually gets people talking.

9. What historical figure do you most identify with? This lets you know something about the other people around you; it also opens up discussion of the events these historical figures were involved in. Yes, potentially it takes you into dangerous waters of politics and religion but people usually take this question in the spirit of fun in which it's meant, so potentially awkward moments are easily averted.

10. What kind of music do you like? You could then go on to talk of CDs you've bought or gigs you've been too. You might even ask - 'what's the most embarrassing album in your collection?' That's usually met with all-round hilarity!

These ideas should show you that interesting topics of conversation don't need to be complex or intellectual - in fact, the more ordinary the better, because then people feel qualified to talk about the topic.

Orisha Elegua

Elegua is also known as Esu in the Yoruba Pantheon of Orisha. Orisha are the deities of the Yoruba tradition. He was brought to the Diaspora via slavery to the Caribbean in places like Cuba where the Lucumi/Santeria tradition continued the Yoruba worship of orisha in the New World. He is the messenger who takes one's prayers and sacrifices to the foot of God in heaven.

Elegua opens and closes the road or way for us in life. He stands in the crossroads and 4 corners. No ceremony is started without paying tribute to him first. He takes many forms and has many names. He is considered a trickster and can be a difficult teacher when there is a lesson needed to be learned.

Religion

There are said to be 256 roads or paths of Esu/Elegua. These paths correspond to the 256 Odu in Ifa. Many have not made it to the New World with the slaves. They remained in Nigeria. No priest or priestess in the Yoruba/Lucumi faith is without an Esu/Elegua. Each person who receives an Elegua receives one specific to their path and needs. Divination is done to determine what path of Elegua is to be given to the person. Elegua is one of the few orishas that you don't have to be fully initiated to receive. One can be an aleyo, outsider (literal translation) or not initiated and receive and Esu/Elegua if they have issues he can help with. This is one of the aspects that what makes Elegua so unique.

Orisha Elegua

He is a very complicated deity. He is known as one that can create confusion very easily. So he always has to be pampered and treated with reverence to avoid hassles created on his behalf. Anytime there is a sacrifice or ceremony he has to be given something first. He is the appropriator of ceremonies. Without Elegua being acknowledged first chances are the outcome desired in a ceremony will not come to fruition. He is considered one of the primary Warriors given in the Ibora or set of Warriors given by a Babalawo. A Babalawo is an Ifa priest initiated in the secrets of Ifa. He gives the set of Warriors to those who need it. The warriors in the Diaspora consist of Elegua, Ogun, Ochosi and Osun. In Nigeria Osun is not given with the warriors. Priests and Priestesses of Orisha may give Elegua to their godchildren but not the whole set of warriors. It is with this Elegua the godchild is initiated to Orisha with when they decide to get initiated.

Contrary to what most people believe not all roads of Elegua like children or want to play. Some can be very serious and dangerous if annoyed or played with. One has to know the road of their Elegua and his particular characteristics. They are not all the same.

Orisha Elegua

Regina has done it again with her site on Santeria. Being initiated in both Yoruba and Bantu religion she is very knowledgeable on the subject of African Religions in the Diaspora. This is definitely the site to check out if you are interested in Santeria-Lucumi and related topics. santeria-lucumi [http://www.santeria-lucumi.com]
