This is literally a billion dollar question because the astrology industry makes billions every year. How did astrology grow into this huge industry and where did it start? Why do people turn to astrology everyday?

A lot of confusion surrounds astrology and what is considered part of astrology. Personal astrology is basically fortune telling, love compatibility, life readings, and things along those lines. The key component to astrology is that it is based on the day you were born, your birth month, your birth time, or anything like that. Another part of astrology is the position of the planets, moon, and sun on the day that you get your reading or the day that you are asking about. But astrology isn't all about personal readings.

Throughout history astrology has been used to determine if a king should go into war or if a country will have a financially successful year. Historically if the astrologer was wrong, they would be killed or suffer some horrible punishment either way their astrology career would be over. Nowadays people don't have to worry about losing their lives when their reading is wrong.

It is the lack of punishment that has drawn so many fake astrologers into the field. Anyone who has any skill in reading people can sit down and give out readings. The problem is that these readings are not based so much on astrology and the position of the planets but on reading the person. Instead of being astrology, it is more like psychology. This is fake astrology.

Some people may challenge the notion that any astrology is real and they may have a lot of good points. In reality astrology has been around almost longer than any religion. For people who truly study the planets in relationship to people, they are working with thousands of years of knowledge that has been passed down. Very few jobs can make that claim. It is obvious that this kind of information is invaluable to predicting the future for anyone or anything.

The line is often blurred between astrology and psychics. This is due to the fact that psychics often fortune telling readings and they may sometimes dip into astrology for these readings. Psychics also do many other things that astrologers don't do. They will pull out a magic ball and 'see' the future in it or connect to someone from the spirit world through it. They have tarot decks that will 'reveal' some aspect of your life. Some of them can even 'read' the lines in your hands and tell you your future. These people are often just reading people and saying things based on what you say or how you react to something. When these people are right it is often simply because you believe that they are right. The mind is a powerful thing and if you believe that you can do something, you will work towards that goal and chances are that it will happen. It didn't happen because a psychic said it would, it happened because you believed that it would.

A nonbeliever of astrology could probably argue the same point, life events happen because you believed they would. Here is where fate or destiny comes into play and not everyone believes in fate or destiny. If everyone has a predetermined destiny then the planets and stars are possibly the only things that could hold that information. Even the surface of the Earth is constantly changing but the location of the stars and planets is set in the galaxy. They have seen everything that has happened on Earth and will continue to watch for eternity. If you need to turn to something, they are the most stable physical objects you can find.

Astrology being real or fake depends on if you find a real astrologer or a fake one. Unfortunately successful fake ones are very good at reading people and, frankly, good at being a con artist. It also depends on if you believe that you have a predetermined destiny or not. If you believe that you make your own fate, then you probably have no use for an astrologer. The bottom line is that only you can answer the question 'Is astrology real or fake?' for yourself.

Orisha Elegua

Elegua is also known as Esu in the Yoruba Pantheon of Orisha. Orisha are the deities of the Yoruba tradition. He was brought to the Diaspora via slavery to the Caribbean in places like Cuba where the Lucumi/Santeria tradition continued the Yoruba worship of orisha in the New World. He is the messenger who takes one's prayers and sacrifices to the foot of God in heaven.

Elegua opens and closes the road or way for us in life. He stands in the crossroads and 4 corners. No ceremony is started without paying tribute to him first. He takes many forms and has many names. He is considered a trickster and can be a difficult teacher when there is a lesson needed to be learned.

Religion

There are said to be 256 roads or paths of Esu/Elegua. These paths correspond to the 256 Odu in Ifa. Many have not made it to the New World with the slaves. They remained in Nigeria. No priest or priestess in the Yoruba/Lucumi faith is without an Esu/Elegua. Each person who receives an Elegua receives one specific to their path and needs. Divination is done to determine what path of Elegua is to be given to the person. Elegua is one of the few orishas that you don't have to be fully initiated to receive. One can be an aleyo, outsider (literal translation) or not initiated and receive and Esu/Elegua if they have issues he can help with. This is one of the aspects that what makes Elegua so unique.

Orisha Elegua

He is a very complicated deity. He is known as one that can create confusion very easily. So he always has to be pampered and treated with reverence to avoid hassles created on his behalf. Anytime there is a sacrifice or ceremony he has to be given something first. He is the appropriator of ceremonies. Without Elegua being acknowledged first chances are the outcome desired in a ceremony will not come to fruition. He is considered one of the primary Warriors given in the Ibora or set of Warriors given by a Babalawo. A Babalawo is an Ifa priest initiated in the secrets of Ifa. He gives the set of Warriors to those who need it. The warriors in the Diaspora consist of Elegua, Ogun, Ochosi and Osun. In Nigeria Osun is not given with the warriors. Priests and Priestesses of Orisha may give Elegua to their godchildren but not the whole set of warriors. It is with this Elegua the godchild is initiated to Orisha with when they decide to get initiated.

Contrary to what most people believe not all roads of Elegua like children or want to play. Some can be very serious and dangerous if annoyed or played with. One has to know the road of their Elegua and his particular characteristics. They are not all the same.

In ancient Greece, the society was based on religion. There are many Greek gods and you may know many of them without even realizing it. Most of the planets in our solar system are named after Greek gods. For example, Uranus is named after one of two founding gods of the world and was revered by the ancient Greeks.

Religion in ancient Greece was based on belief. And, each even had a god associated with it. That is how there were gods of love, war, sea, farming and so on and so forth. The ancient Greeks believed that the gods were physically and intellectually similar to the mortals. The ancient Greek gods were presumed to have emotions and that is why Greek mythology is filled with tales of revenge, greed, jealousy and wars among gods.

Zeus was the King of Gods and the gods fought and planned for dominance either under Zeus or against him. The ancient Greeks believed that their gods resided on Mount Olympus and the gods came into power after defeating the Titans, who were gods before the Olympian gods.

The relationship between the ancient Greeks and their gods was rather complicated. The relationship was personal, geographical or general. In personal relationship with gods, a person interacted directly with the god. In geographical relationship, a god favored a city or state over another city or state. The ancient Greeks believed that the gods decided their fate so with was futile to have freewill or try and outwit the gods. This would explain the sacrifices and gifts the people of ancient Greece would offer to gods if they sought some form of assistance from them. For instance, a sea voyage was never undertaken before making offering to Poseidon, god of sea and ocean.

As ancient Greece started interacting with other cultures through wars, religion started evolving. Religion in ancient Greece was impacted by Islam, Christianity and early Roman belief system which is evident even today in Greece.
