Thinking and behavior, in the name of religion and church, seem foul sometimes. Instead of avoiding or blaming, a little experiment can be done. Religion and church can be evaluated to determine if they really are the source of thinking and behavior. This effort has to be scientific, minus the human emotionalism quite often attending the subjects of religion or church. The research will also be metaphysical, indicative to the evidence that thought and behavior is infinite, yet never idle.

It is not an arguing point in this experiment to say human beings are connected to, or disconnected from, religion and church. Religion and church are associated with systems of beliefs. Basically, we all do have a system of beliefs. Scientists, clergy, physicians, sports fans, aid-workers, the strange neighbor, and so on do not only believe something, but also act on those beliefs religiously. Admittedly, belief systems are mind boggling. However, confusion diminishes as beliefs are broken down into simple components. A belief of love versus a belief in hate. A belief in principle versus a belief in randomness. Although these simple components are almost too simple, simplicity is a valid starting point in research.

Love and Principle is the source of constructive, practical, healing, compassionate ideas and thus action. Religion or church did not invent or initiate Love, Principle. Although, religion and church can be tools by which enlightened understanding and behavior are brought to our attention; research reveals that systems of beliefs have no innate lasting power to create, authorize, or discredit, the thoughts and behavior of people. Ironically, belief systems that lack this knowledge will think human philosophies, agendas, and rituals, empower thinking and behavior. However, unnumbered people have acted on a particular belief for years until one day they realized the belief was bogus, easily changed by newly presented facts or by simply taking a stand for a better thought.

Believing in an ultimate love and principle is better than believing in an unbeatable hate and chaos. A love belief contributes to the positive nature of thinking and action, contributes to our humaneness. But love without principle, flusters. Principle has order and includes an understanding of what love really is; a love that disallows suffocation or hurt feelings. Because religion and church are not the source of thought and behavior, they cannot be the source of humanities advancement. Also, they cannot be a source of foul play. Therefore, it would be backward either to love or hate religion and church. It is better to love Love and hate hate.

If human beings believe religion or church originates (or crushes) advancement they acquiesce to rote thoughts, creating unapproachable or callous behavior worthless to the well-being of people and our world. Effort put into comprehending Love, Principle, is necessary. Because to just believe what first pops into our heads concerning the truth of these topics, is not productive. Mary Baker Eddy wrote in Science and Health, "To seek Truth through belief in a human doctrine is not to understand the infinite." The infinite nature of Love, Principle, precludes the beliefs that advancement and inspired behavior can only come from a select group of people or at a particular time in human history. Someone, somewhere, now, is receiving a better concept of love and principle and applying it in their daily life. It is our right and responsibility to be aware of, and implement into every avenue of life, progressive ideas. If a small business owner in New Zealand decides to renovate her merchandise, making it more functional for the customers, we too can keep in mind how to better serve others.

It is essential to make sure we are not our own worst enemy to progressive beliefs. Decisions and choices are too often mechanically made based on our very limited mortal imprints and expectations. Meditation can help us disconnect from finite, even stubbornly ingrained beliefs. Prayer can allow us to reconnect with loving principled beliefs that yield to understanding. For example, years ago I believed any advancement in religion or church had to come from a religious or churchy person. But, just as genes mutate, my belief changed-improved. I discovered people who never went to church who were healing, who were serene, logical, powerful examples of the religion of Love. Conclusively, progress in healing and comfort exists. Perpetual advancement is not confined to a mortal or to the discoveries of mortals even if they call the discovery a religion or church.

I am not you, and you are not me. Religion is not church, and church is not religion. No one church has a monopoly on truth and no religion can be limited to a particular church. Understanding unites you and me, unites religion and church, but at no point does a church become religion or vice versa. Even if a religion and church seem to be born at the same time-like twins-they still are not one and the same. The true identities of religion and church can't be distorted, discredited, or credited falsely, no matter how screwed up human belief systems and behavior can look. The object is to understand the Identities of Love, Principle, not so much the individualities of religion or church.

The individuality and unity of religion and church need to be viewed spiritually, with honesty and open-mindedness. If a belief system exaggeratedly magnifies the individuality of a religion or church, without appreciating the goodness of others, division is inevitable. Be aware though, if a belief system intensely strives to connect human beings, people mistakenly will assume that unity is to unify, to amalgamate into one and the same. Not possible. The Infinite is infinite uniqueness. Religions, churches, and human beings do not integrate into a similar, delineated body. Infinite identity requires endless unique individualities.

Religion and church are not the source of thought and behavior. They are thought and behavior. As effort is made to understand the thought and behavior of Love, Principle, instead of hate and uncertainty, religion and church can be seen as not something to avoid or blame but as something to include in our ever advancing world. Every effort made on the side of Love, Principle, will naturally diminish the tendency to repeat idle, self-destructive belief systems. With an infinite, beliefs constantly improve and progress can be understood and experienced by us and our world.

Is Music a Religion?

Lately I am thinking about the power that music has to influence especially the young generation.

I can say that some people are addicted to their ipods and their favorite artists are their new idols. Many of them are thinking that music is just a part of somebody's entertainment, but to me music looks a lot like a new religion.

Music is getting people together and music is separating people, music is bringing a new culture and music is ending a culture, music is mobilizing people for war and music is making them cry. Yes, music is more than few keys joined together, music is a strong tool that deeply changes the young generation.

Is Music a Religion?

Teenagers don't want to be like their dads (like in the past), but they want to be like their favorite artist. They don't faint when they see so much suffering around them, but they faint when they see their idol. It's like their idols are taken by their music into a whole new world - the world of fame and glory.

If you want to be successful, if you want to impress the people around you, you have to look and act like a famous singer. The same tendency comes to the Christian music too, almost everybody is looking and prefers to be like one of the singers they love.

I've been to a Christian concert and I was shocked to hear that some of the well known Christian artists are doing a "special favor" to the present pastors, giving them an autograph... It's such a pitiful idea... Why does a pastor need an autograph ? We are suppose to worship Jesus and not people!

Does Religion Cause War? PART ONE

One often hears the lazy argument that "Religion" is responsible for Man's wars, the assumption being that if we got rid of religion all would be peace and harmony. Presumably then, if all men abandoned the notion that they are spirits inhabiting a material body and conceived of themselves as mere animals fashioned by chance from mud our troubles would be over and we'd all be a lot happier. This is of course untrue and does not correspond with an observation of history, nor of present reality.

It also displays a degree of fogginess about what one means by the word "religion" Religions vary considerably. There are pantheisms (the belief in many gods) monotheisms (the belief in one God who created all) and religions that worship no gods at all, such as Buddhism or modern Scientology.

At the far end of the spectrum there are even religions that do not conceive man to be an immortal soul even while life is considered to be nevertheless spiritual in essence.

Some religions such as Christianity stress faith, while faith has no place at all in others -Scientology and Buddhism being cases in point.

One should note too, while one is discussing paradigms based on Faith, that materialism remains unable to produce conclusive evidence for its basic assumption. That spirituality does not exist is a matter of belief, not evidence. One can of course produce evidence that the material universe exists and one can establish and prove its laws but this is not proof that that the material universe is all there is. The assertion that the material universe is all there is is neither scientific nor logical and is actually a statement of faith.

Alright, so this vague undefined variable known as "religion" or "faith" is responsible for Man's wars. Is it true?

Well, I can think of a few recent conflicts or humanitarian cataclysms whose driving force was anything but religious.

Hitler's massacre of ethnic minorities, for instance: religions were often the victim of Nazi psychosis but they were not responsible for it. In fact it is now a matter of record that the drive behind Nazi mass slaughter came from German Psychiatry, the arch-champion of the man-is-mud hypothesis.

The drive behind the Russian revolution and the Stalinist slaughter that followed it was anything but religious, deriving again from the materialism of communism and psychiatry.

Ditto the civil war and ethnic cleansing in Yugoslavia. Ditto the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, with materialistic psychiatry the hidden motivator again.

The Chinese invasion of Korea in1950 and the Korean War that followed also had little or nothing to do with religious issues. One had materialistic communist China on the one hand and the largely atheistic commercial imperialism of western nations on the other.

The US invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were commerce-driven regardless of what justifications are concocted for it, while in the war in Vietnam religion figured neither in the motivation nor rhetoric of either side.

Not all war therefore is "caused" by "religion." Religious groups are however often the victim or target of it but not exclusively and not always. There is no evidence that by "getting rid of religion" one would "get rid of war" any more than there is evidence that by outlawing atheism or abandoning commerce there would be peace on Earth.

Nor is there any evidence that an abandonment of spirituality would make society happier. On the contrary, our western society has become unhappier and more demoralized as it has become materialistic. You will probably find that the epidemic spread of drug abuse and crime on the one hand and the decline in man's spirituality and even his sense of right and wrong follow commensurate curves. In the midst of material abundance, which theoretically should have made Man happier, we live out our days in an increasingly miserable Gomorrah of lost souls.

Of course "religion" is a factor in the war in the Middle East and in justifications for their crimes asserted by terrorist groups. And religion has been a factor in many a human conflict. It is true too that religious societies have not necessarily been happy ones either.

In fact, a look at human history tells one that whether spiritual in outlook or materialistic in outlook, Man tends to have a hard time. From this one can conclude that humanity is still evolving its social forms and does not yet have all the answers. This is no reason to get apathetic about the whole thing and to abandon the effort to reason in favour of generalized, unworkable slogans. Indeed, we have every incentive to go on trying to get better at these things called society and civilization, if only through a sense of responsibility to our children who will inherit whatever dog's breakfast we bequeath them.

Part of getting better at managing human affairs is dropping the habit of buying into broad, untrue, generalities such as "religion is the cause of war" or some such nonsense, looking it over more carefully and seeing if we can get a bit closer to the truth, a bit more accurate about what exactly is getting us into trouble.

Perhaps, if we do, we might grow up a bit and as a species begin carrying ourselves with more dignity and less floundering slapstick and we might perchance knock off the habit of following every psycho who seeks to persuade us to burn the skin off the children of people we have never met.

I will continue this effort to apply reason to the matter of religion and war in the next essay in this series.

Angels In Religion

Angels are protectors, messengers, healers and destroyers. They figure most prominently in the world's three major monotheistic religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam, though angels have been a part of many if not most religions throughout history. The ancient Greeks believed in unseen spirits known as daemons that often watched over mortals. The god Hermes was most similar to the modern interpretation of angels in that he was messenger to the gods, guided travelers on perilous journeys and even had wings, albeit on his ankles. Devas, in Hinduism, are supernatural beings that represent the forces of nature as well as moral values and serve Brahman, the creator of the universe. Like the devas in Hinduism, the devas in Buddhism are supernatural beings, however they do not represent abstract concepts so much as possess superior abilities to mortals. They are more powerful, more enlightened and live longer than human beings. And like angels in the Judeo-Christian pantheon, the Buddhist devas are organized into a hierarchy.

There are three particular classes of devas, identifiable by the realms of the universe in which they exist. The devas of the rkpyadh'tu or formless realm indeed are formless and meditate on formless ideas. The devas of the Rkpadh'tu or form realm, while having physical forms do not have genders nor do they have passions or desires. The third realm is the Kmadhtu and the devas there are most like humans in that they have passions both sensual and intellectual. And like humans, they are sometimes overcome by these passions. Each realm is further divided into different worlds and heavens, similar to the Christianity hierarchy, as defined by Pseudo-Dionysius in the fifth century, has nine choirs of angels divided into three spheres, each sphere divided into three classes of angels.

The angels of the third sphere--the Principalities, Archangels and Angels--are the messengers and soldiers of heaven. The second sphere-- Dominions, Virtues and Powers--are the governors. The first sphere--Seraphim, Cherubim and the Thrones-- are closest to God and thus are supposed to be perfect. However, in the Christian tradition, Lucifer is seen as a fallen seraph angel. His rebellion against God precipitated his fall from heaven and he became the ruler of the underworld. Angels of the third sphere have the most contact with humans, as they are assigned to each human at birth to assist them throughout their mortal lives, but this proximity to humans makes them most susceptible to sin. In Islam, angels, or Malaaikah, are incapable of sin because they do not have free will. Therefore Satan is regarded as a jinn, a spirit with free will, because he turns his back on Allah.

The archangels carry messages between God and humans. The number of archangels varies, though only four are specifically named in the Old Testament, Gabriel, Michael, Raphael and Uriel. Together they represent the cardinal directions-Gabriel is the North, Michael is the East, Raphael the West and Uriel the South. Cosmic Religion

Definition is limitation; therefore a cosmic religion would remain undefined. Rather, it would be as organic as humanity itself - ever growing, evolving and simplifying. Dogmatic peonage would be replaced by pragmatism. Focus on subjective context would prevail, shifting away from patriarchal model of modern man in which knowledge is handed down by the Elite, and towards the importance of personal experience and revelation.

Personally, when people ask me what religion I am, I express that in following one single religion, you'd be cutting yourself short. Spirituality is a quest, and religion a method of journey. Religions should be compared to supply kits and maps. In expedition towards the summit (Divinity, Heaven, Unity, Realization of Self, Nirvana, etc.) a deep analytical understanding of various religions and mystical life styles can converge into a candid avenue, which serves as a guiding mantra to the spiritual process. Religion causes war. This is a matter of historical fact. Since time immemorial, men have fought each other in wars caused by religion. There are at least three instances by which religion causes war.

The first is when people try to compel other people to adopt their religion or religious perspectives. This comes from our innate tendency to want other people to subscribe to our beliefs. That desire can be accompanied with a strong zeal such that if others are impervious to our peaceful approach to convert them to our beliefs, we can even resort to violence to achieve that end. History is replete with such examples. One example was shown during the initial propagation of Islam when the Prophet Mohammad actually declared a holy war against the desert kingdoms and cities of Arabia. The purpose of the holy war was compel the infidel Arab people to embrace the new religion he had founded. This kind of religious conflict was also amply demonstrated during the Thirty Years' War of the 1600s. Catholics and Protestants in Europe were locked in a long and devastating conflict that arose out of a desire of the warring religious and political leaders to force each other to accept their own interpretation of what Christianity should be.

The second instance when religion can cause war is when a nation of a particular religious conviction goes to war against another nation, not to convert it to their religion, but to simply eliminate them as people who are unfit to populate a certain geographical locality. It is nothing more but the expression of a bias against another group of people because they do not subscribe to the same faith or religion. This was the nature of the violence that erupted between the Old Testament Hebrew nation and their neighboring desert tribal nations such as the Canaanites, Edomites, and the Moabites. As narrated in the Bible, the Hebrews had to wage wars against these neighboring kingdoms, not so much to convert them to the Hebrew faith, but as an act of cleansing commanded by no less than their God who wanted to rid the Promised Land of people practicing other religions with allegiance to other gods such as Baal, who was a much hated deity in biblical history. This kind of war that partakes of the nature of a cleansing act had its modern version in the Serbian Christians' attempt on ethnic cleansing to clear the newly created republic of Kosovo of its majority Muslim population so that the minority Christians of Kosovo could take over.

Does Religion Cause War?

Finally, religion causes war because people of different religious convictions can easily distrust each other. In this instance, there is no attempt to either convert or eliminate each other. Two groups of people or nations go to war against each other because of they have a sense of misgivings for each other that can be traced to their difference in religious convictions. An example of this was the long conflict that had characterized the relationship of the Catholics and the Protestants in North Ireland. There had been no attempt to convert each other. Neither had each religious group attempted to eliminate each other from their geographical enclaves. It had been a war that was waged by two religious groups who had found it psychologically difficult to co-exist simply because they had different religious beliefs. It might be an oversimplification but in a sense, this is how we can characterize the strained relationship between the Christian and the Muslim worlds today. That strained relationship has found an outlet in what is currently termed the "war on terrorism" being being fought by the United States and its allies against a militant Islamic group called Al Qaeda.

Religion does cause war. However, there is a positive footnote on this. The other side of the coins is, religion does also promote peace, perhaps even more than it causes war. But that is another story.

Religion...technically and strictly speaking is belief in the controlling power of the superhuman. If there's a controlling power, a basic question needs to be addressed...what is it exactly that is being controlled? The word 'religious' encompasses all that is right, conscientious and moral. So, religion is that aspect of one's life that enables channelizing of thoughts and accordingly actions, since the two are interdependent and must synchronize for a synergistic interplay. Religion was created because we humans need something tangible to believe in...so what we cannot comprehend or aptly describe, we term as god's handiwork.

Religion provides us with a platform to express ideas. It gives us, as a community, an opportunity to come together. Religion unites. It gives us a common foundation, the latter being essential for a final build up towards a wholesome existence. As humans, there's constant need on our part to connect with others of our race, to reach out, to explore, to comprehend, to have a common grounding factor. Religion provides us with all that and more. Ideally that's how it is supposed to be. But of course as we know from history, from our own experiences, from all we witness around us, ideologies are fragile. It is a different thing to talk of ideals and a completely different thing to put enforce them in practice.
As mentioned earlier, religion controls...or rather guides our thoughts...harmonious thoughts.

Trouble brews when we fail to recognize the constructive nature of these thoughts. Human race, since the beginning of its existence, has essentially been a divided lot. There are differences based on nationality, societal status, creed, or even matters as trivial as the color of one's skin! In such a scenario, can religion be far behind? Tracing the origin of these disparate factors, we realize that there is one fundamental similarity...they are all created. Nature did not intend it that way. We were created as humans, distinct in our formation and capacities from animals, not from each other. Evolution designed man to arise from animal. We are letting the animal within us to take precedence over our reason and sanity and trying to legitimize it in the name of religion!

But can violence, aggression against another and curtailing someone's freedom ever be legitimized? The answer is a resounding NO!!
Everywhere we look around us, there are examples that only reiterate our regression. Such incidents may range from petty non issue debates to ghastly massacres. A case in point here would be the godhra carnage. Enough and more has been written about the initiation and propagation of violence that ensued due to the handiwork of a few miscreants. There are as many theories as there are people in the state of Gujarat on people of which religion started the riots. Who was the initiator is a matter for the protectors of the legal system to decide. The problem that we need to address as common citizens is that have we become so blind as a society to believe whatever is fed to us? Are we so frustrated and disillusioned with our lives that we need to take innocent lives to vent our anger? This fire of frustration is in turn fuelled by politics. The upholders of our democracy need issues to stay in the public eye, most often at the cost of steering the attention away from the real issues that stare us in the face. Are we falling prey to their ploys?

When did something as individual and personal as one's way of life...one's religion...become a ground for holding them hostage? Since when is it a reason to kill? Since when do we fear god, our creator?? The only ones we have to fear are his apparent men and messengers. God is essentially one, only we know him by different names. The sooner we realize...no, we do realize but do not believe. The sooner we believe the fact, the better it is for us. The human race is a rather resilient lot...we have survived everything from the wrath of nature in the form of the ice ages, famines, earthquakes and cyclones to our self destructive world wars. Surely by our inherent rationality, we can also put an end to this madness!

UHello everyone! Are you a big fan of designer denim? Have you always wanted a pair of True Religion jeans, but don't live near a store that sells them? Well there is always the option of buying them online, which is very convenient for just about everybody! The only problem that arises with buying online is- "Are they authentic? How do you tell? How do you know you are not getting ripped off?" Well in this article, I will discuss a few ways that YOU yourself can learn to spot the REAL DEAL versus the FAKES! Ready?

First off, you must know that True Religion jeans are very, VERY expensive. There are the regular stitched True Religion jeans, the BIG T stitched (with thicker stitching), and the SUPER T stitched (with super thick stitching). The Super T's are the most expensive, around 9 per pair. Your first clue to whether or not the jeans you want are safe to buy is: PRICE. If they are too cheap, then chances are they are FAKE. However, this is not always the case. I have seen countless fakes being sold at very high prices. So look out! Pay attention to details!!

Details such as the stitching, shape of the horseshoes, inner pattern on the pockets, rivets, placement of the back logo patch, inseam length, material, inner tags, and even the belt loops are all ways to tell the difference between a REAL pair and a FAKE pair. I will cover each one of these for you.

Authentic True Religion Jeans! How To Know The Difference Between The Real Deal And Fakes!

1. Stitching: Real True Religion jeans have stitching throughout the jeans that is comparable to regular thread. It is very clean, even, and without flaws, such as running out of the lines or being stitched on top of. It is very professionally done, and doesn't look like a two year old tried to sew them. Fake pairs tend have have stitching that looks more like yarn, and gets fuzzy looking. It is often sloppy, with a lot of mistakes.

2. Horseshoe shape: The back horseshoes on the pockets should be evenly places inside of the back pockets. This is a huge clue, as MANY and MOST fakes cannot get this right. Authentic True Religion jeans have horseshoes that are centered evenly from the top to bottom, and left to right. They are not narrow in shape.

3. Inner pockets: True Religion jeans have small red Buddhas on the inner pocket lining. They are small, evenly spaced, and red. FAKE pairs have larger Buddhas are often very faded (or barely there), maroon in color, and the pocket material looks tan, not white. The pocket material should be white, with smaller red buddhas.

4. Rivets: The rivets near the front coin pockets are made out of a metal-like material. They are never plastic, which is commonly seen on fakes.

5. Placement of back True Religion logo patch: The back patch on authentic True Religion jeans is on the right hand side, all the way over to the right. It is commonly seen on fakes that the patch is more centered in the middle of the right hand side, which is a dead giveaway. Also, one must take note that the way the stitching around this label is done is VERY important. The back label should have red, EVEN stitching that is VERY neatly done around the entire patch. Fakes have stitching that is all over the place, and is over over-stitched in certain areas, or looks like the patch is about the fall off. Please note that many authentic True Religion patches are brown leather, as well as the red and white.

6. Inseam length: If you are buying a pair of brand new true Religion jeans, you are going to have a VERY long inseam length to start with. The inseam is usually at least 33" long, and can be as long as 36" on some pairs. If your pair is brand new, and the inseam is only 32" or less, then be aware that these may be fakes. Some older styles of True Religion jeans did actually have a shorter inseam around 32", but it is not very common anynore. Most fakes have s shorter inseam of about 32" or 32.5". Please also note that if you are buying a preowned/ used pair, the first owner may have had them hemmed, so please ask them before assuming they are fakes if they have a shorter inseam.

7. Material: The two most commonly used fabric types in True Religion jeans are 100% cotton (also known as RIGID) or 99% cotton 1% elastin (stretch). True Religion NEVER EVER uses Polyurethane in their blends, so if you see it, keep going- they are fake!

8. Inner tags: There are three inner tags, the one on top has a red Buddha that states the size, and says MADE IN USA. (The jeans are NEVER made in China!) On ther reverse of this tag is the material content, care instructions, RN and CA#'s on top. Then there is a cloth tag, that is smaller in side with a red horseshoe and strip across the bottom. On the reverse side of this tag is a serial code. Then last a paper tag underneath with style numbers (newer pairs even have the style name), PO numbers, CA, and RN numbers. Note that often times, the FAKE tags are slippery feeling, or waxy. They are often a brown tone as well, and are not white as they should be.

9. Belt loops: Fake True Religion jeans have VERY slanted side belt loops, almost crooked looking, like they are going sideways. They should NOT look like this!
